Abstract: Study abroad programs in dance education have played a key role in equipping students with globally and culturally diverse academic, pedagogic and professional knowledge, aptitudes and experiences. For this study, I interviewed six subjects who participated in New York University dance education study abroad program to Uganda from 2007 to 2010 to interrogate and establish what motivated them to participate in the program, their pre-departure preparations for the program and the observed and embodied cross-cultural learning encounters that they had during the program. The article further reveals the different modalities that these study abroad alumni have used to integrate the skills, knowledge, and competences that they acquired through the program into their work experiences in New York City. © 2014, © 2014 Taylor & Francis.
